Rising Up in Worship in the Face of Trial & Calamity

At the end of December 2019, I shared a word from Joshua 3 for our cohort that 2020 would be a year that faith would be tested but also where we would witness the mighty wonders and miracles of God. This word was also a personal declaration I was clinging onto as I went through a barrage of challenges that tested my faith as well!

As time went by, I became aware that many others in the Body of Christ had been going through a similar season of discouragement, resistance, and spiritual warfare. And as we entered the new year, bad news continued to roll in - natural disasters of volcanic eruptions, extreme fires, outbreak of deadly diseases, sudden tragic deaths… the list goes on. Many have remarked: Can 2020 be over already?

As worshippers, we worship God not based on our feelings and circumstances, but simply because He is good. He is worthy, and His worth NEVER changes. That is why the Lord asks us to trust Him over and over again, to have faith and to keep our eyes on His Presence.

Be aware that you were born into a war -  a spiritual battle, not one of flesh and blood, but of powers and principalities. There is nothing more pertinent to the enemy than for him to get you to question the goodness of God, blame Him, and ultimately to lose your faith.

“He is worthy, and His worth NEVER changes.”

In Numbers 13 when the spies went out to scout the Promised Land with Joshua and Caleb, they came back totally discouraged because all they could see were giants in the land. Meanwhile, all Joshua and Caleb could see was a land overflowing with milk and honey that the Lord has promised to give to them! The giants were but grasshoppers in their eyes in comparison to their Mighty God. In the same way, when David was sizing up Goliath, he was totally not impressed by how big and scary he was. In fact, David was only impressed by the Almighty God who was fighting for Him and knew would give him victory!

What if the greatest revival and move of God history will ever see is about to break forth across the earth? What if this is a prime opportunity for the church not to shrink back and retreat in fear but to shine the light of Jesus as a city on a hill in our darkest hour? It’s time for us to encamp around the Presence of God and unite in prayer and worship.

So worshippers arise - Let us learn from our fathers of faith! Worship and prayer is key for us to persevere in this season. When we face trials of many kinds, when we face giants, obstacles and mountains - let’s speak to the mountain to be moved and it shall be moved.
