Two things about worship the Church needs to know

Armed with a guitar, a month’s items packed in suitcases, and hearts bursting with anticipation, five of our AG team embarked on an eye-opening journey to America in January 2022. We returned, not only with our eyes opened, but with a deeper understanding of worship and what it means to be part of this global worship movement. Here are two things that we pray would encourage you in your journey as a worshiper.

Firstly, what would it look like to centre our lives & our communities around the presence of God?

This question echoed in our hearts after witnessing the way our friends at Upperroom prioritise the presence of God in their services, prayer rooms and even in their meetings. The questions posed at their team debrief centred around this - “What is God showing us?”

We can get caught up in planning things or perhaps living our lives as ‘usual’, but what would it mean for us to reorient ourselves to the presence of God, even in the seemingly mundane moments?

Like David, whose ‘one thing’ was to dwell in God’s house and behold his beauty (Psalm 27:4), we want our lives to center around His presence.

One thing have I asked of the Lord,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
and to inquire in his temple.

Psalm 27:4

What would this look like for you?

Second, how can we walk in greater unity and generosity as worshippers?

We were deeply moved when two pastors, on separate occasions and completely unplanned, gathered their team to pray for us with the words “Everything our house has, we give to them.” We believe we received a fresh anointing and passion for worship and prayer that now flows out of us as we continue the work we do here.

What radical generosity! It is unity demonstrated, not just in the giving of physical resources, but in the spiritual. As a ministry, we want to do the same - everything our house has, we give. And in this overflow of what God has given us, we don’t want to withhold anything (Proverbs 11:24-5).

One gives freely, yet grows all the richer;
another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and one who waters will himself be watered.

Proverbs 11:24-5

What would it look like for you and your house to walk in this generosity? To both inspire and demonstrate unity of the body?

We pray that as the presence of God overflows in our lives and ministries when we centre on Him, we will be moved to walk in such radical generosity that when the world looks at us, one with the Father and with one another, they will know the glory and love of Jesus (John 17).
